Account Executive

JOB DESCRIPTION

As an account executive, you understand the importance of deadlines. You know how to lead a team and get things done. A project manager is organized and detail oriented. You are a natural-born leader who understands the importance of structure and professionalism in an agency setting. Your strong communication skills are reflected in your ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships. When it comes to your commitments, you are hardworking, passionate and willing to go the extra mile.

DUTIES

  • Be the liaison between the creatives and the client
  • Lead team meetings to ensure productivity
  • Give project updates to the client regularly

Graphic Designer / Illustrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

A graphic designer is creative, innovative and an out-of-the-box thinker. As a hard worker, you know how to manage time and work well with a deadline. You have the opportunity to create for a variety of media, designing multiple assets for posters, motion graphics, social media visuals, conference booths and more.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide an online portfolio link within the job description
  • Excelled in COMM 130: Visual Communications (or art department equivalents)
  • Excelled in COMM 305: Vector Graphics (preferred but not required)
  • Exceptional skills in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Great taste and a strong sense of design, typography, color, layout, and illustration
  • Proficient in Adobe After Effects, Adobe Dimension, and Adobe Xd (preferred but not required)
  • Passion for creativity, finishing projects and working as a team

DUTIES

Video Director / Production Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION

A video director is passionate about bringing ideas to life. With an eye for detail, you are capable of envisioning your idea in full clarity then creating it. As a storyteller, you recognize the importance of carefully planned high-quality video. You are organized and productive, confidently juggling multiple projects.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Taken COMM 130 and COMM 265
  • Familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve
  • Experience producing video content
  • Time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Innovative and original ideas

DUTIES

  • Shoot and edit interviews, “B-roll” supplemental footage, advertisements, and short narratives
  • Record high-quality audio (dialogue, natural sound, room tone, supplemental sound (“foley” or “SFX”)
  • Use Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve
  • Share what you have, and teach what you know
  • Work well in a team environment
Copywriter

JOB DESCRIPTION

A copywriter loves to write and does it well. You oversee all copy that the agency produces, writing and editing print ads, scripts, brochures and more. You are witty and creative, full of innovative ideas that you aren’t afraid to share. Proofreading is a pastime of yours; there’s never an errant comma that you don’t catch. You understand the importance of spelling and grammar and are quite familiar with a thesaurus. You’re competent in writing anything from press releases to social media captions.

  • Impeccable spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills
  • A creative mind that can think through problems
  • Brilliant ideas that showcase themselves in your writing
  • Ability to write copy that captivates, interests and impacts anyone who reads it

DUTIES

  • Write, edit and rewrite all copy produced for clients
  • Help formulate the “big idea” for each campaign
  • Work well in a team environment
Researcher / Marketer

JOB DESCRIPTION

A researcher knows the value of understanding the big picture and the individual. Proper research is what guides and directs successful campaigns. Without research on the job, it’s all guesswork. You ask the right questions so that our client’s message can reach the right audience.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Taken COMM 280 or Math 221
  • Capable of working independently and with a team
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with Qualtrics

DUTIES

  • Conduct surveys and focus groups
  • Prepare and give presentations about results to clients or other departments
  • Learn the basics of market research
  • Utilize programs such as Qualtrics, SPSS, and Excel
  • Work well in a team environment

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who Can Work At Soapbox?

We need hardworking and motivated students in Soapbox Agency. The Communication Department is the primary sponsor of this agency, but we welcome students from all departments to apply. If you are skilled at or interested in, design, video, copy, public relations, research or account management, we welcome you to apply!

Are there classes I need to take before applying?

Yes, the 100, 200 and some 300 level classes offered by the Communication Department at BYU-Idaho are required or preferred prerequisites that need to complete before applying to Soapbox.

Is Soapbox a class?

Yes. Soapbox can count as a practicum class that can be taken multiple times, even during an off-track semester with approval from a professor.

When does Soapbox meet?

Soapbox meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 pm – 4:45 pm.

Do I have to take Scroll before being in Soapbox?

No, you don’t have to take Scroll before being in Soapbox. While they are both under the student media umbrella, they are separate organizations.

Can I apply to Soapbox more than once?

Yes, you can apply for Soapbox Agency as long as you are a student at BYU-Idaho.

How many hours will I work?

We meet for three hours a week as an agency, but the amount of time outside of agency and department meetings is dependent on the projects you may be assigned. Students are allowed 20 hours a week max, as are most BYU-Idaho work related positions.

Do I get paid?

Within Soapbox Agency there are various paid and unpaid positions. Generally, your first semester with Soapbox will be for practicum credit and not pay. However, you can work your way up to a paid position.

Is Soapbox Agency limited to the BYU-Idaho Campus?

Soapbox Agency is located on the BYU-Idaho campus, but our work extends beyond Rexburg, Idaho. We are available for travel.
